Social Glue Collage Festival Schiedam!

September 4 – October 5, 2025

Visual artists and curators Nancy Hoogstad and Juliette Pestel are organizing Social Glue Collage Festival in the context of the 750th anniversary of the city of Schiedam in the Netherlands. We are working together with artists of KunstWerkt and of international collective The Collage Club. Both the artists of The Collage Club and KunstWerkt are excited to work together with the people of Schiedam and other visitors.

The title of the festival, Social Glue, refers to the connection we are looking for during the festival. In an analog collage, you literally glue the source material together. Separate parts connected form a new image, a new story. By connecting to another person, we get to know each other, discover together, learn and work together. Although we can be very different, we are connected to each other during this festival through analogue collage.

The city of Schiedam is the starting point for this collage festival. The past, present and future of Schiedam are investigated. The collages made for the exhibitions in the festival are a sum of research into form, concept, feelings, ideas, material and – in most cases – glue for each artist.

During the festival we show collage and collage based works from participating artists, in the main exhibition at KunstWerkt gallery and in two satellite exhibitions at I-Punt S’DAM (the tourist office) and Jenevermuseum. The works show a great diversity in collage and assemblage. It’s inspiring to see how broad the definition of collage can be stretched.

There will be workshops by The Collage Club artists, collage meet-ups, walk-in workshops, a collage material market and an auction of donated collages for charities in Schiedam

Connected layers, connected people, individuality becoming a whole, just as we imagined when we started organizing the festival!
